i'm using a bsnl home combo uld 900 plan, where you get 4mbps till 8gb and 512kbps after that...

i have crossed my 8gb limit, and i find while the download speeds are good exceeding 512kbps, torrents go at 64KBps, the browsing speed has dropped... sometimes its fast n sometimes pages like facebook or tfi take a long time to load, even when there are no background downloads...

i access net via wifi, n d signal strength is 70%.. router is downstairs (wireless g router)... using a wifi dongle (wireless g)

speedtest report:

the compie connected via ethernet cable or ipad does not suffer from this problem, so guess it's either some browser setting or wifi problem..

any ideas??

Use Google or Open DNS and check. Browsing speed issues are mostly DNS related.

as Wiz suggested, use Open DNS.

If not changing, try Google DNS.

i decided the usb wifi dongle's signal strength was not enough...

so i got a cheap router, installed dd-wrt custom firmware in it, connected it to the pc in my upstairs room via ethernet, and wirelessly bridged it with the modem router downstairs...

everythings working at nice speeds now.... and the dongle worked oly in linux, n din work in windows n mac, so solved that problem in addition by this method :)
