A simple tutorial for sharing WiFi between various devices like tablets, laptops, mobile phones, Sony PlayStation, desktop (you will need some additions) and almost any WiFi enabled device at the same time no matter they run Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7 (32 / 64 bit), Linux or Ubuntu.

In this step by step guide with diagram, you will find answers for the following questions

1. How to connect a non WiFi modem to a WiFi router for popular Internet Service Providers (ISP) like BSNL, Airtel, MTNL etc or cable internet providers ?

If you want to share internet provided by an USB modem or data card with CDMA, 2G, 3G, EDGE, GPRS etc, click on the part highlighted in green in this sentence.

2. How to use WiFi to connect and browse through smart phones ?

It works for all popular versions of WiFi enabled Android operating system phones from Samsung, HTC, Micromax, Motorola etc, iPhone / iOS, Blackberry, Bada OS, Nokia Symbain, Lumia series Windows Phones, other ordinary WiFi enabled mobile phones etc.

3. How to use WiFi in laptops to browse or share files through LAN or WAN using LAN (etherent RJ 45 ) cable or Wirelessly ?

Normally it works fine with almost all laptops including Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Lenonovo, Asus, Acer, Mac book and even those running on linux flavours (distros) including Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, RedHat, Cent OS etc that has a WiFi adapter (built in or using PCI or portable USB).

4. How to use WiFi to browse, download or transfer files in tablets (tablet PCs) ?

Once set up properly, you will able to use a tablet just like your laptop or mobile using WiFi router. It works fine on Android tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab, Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, Asus Transformer, iPad and other iOS devices.

5. How to connect internet through WiFi for Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox 360 other gaming devices ?

How to connect cable, land line and lan cable while connecting modem to wifi router ?

If you are confused with cables, the smaller one will be RJ 11 or phone line and the bigger one will be RJ 45 ethernet LAN cable. Check the image below

(same for single antenna WiFi router)

You may find this useful

1. How to check usage details ? (last part covers tools for all ISPs)

2. How to select a WiFi modem or router ?

The diagram is self explanatory. Just make sure that you configure the modem in PPPoE or Always ON mode. Hope you will understand though the concept is simple there may be some variations or difficulties that may arise due to different models of modem, router, laptop, LAN card, WiFi adapter, Operating systems and phone, tablet, laptop, gaming console models. If you are confused on any part, all you have to do is ask on this thread or start a separate thread for the problem.

You are always welcome to add useful suggestions to this thread anytime.
