1. VLC Player

First and foremost, most of us use out PC to watch movies and listen to music. If you are a fan of VLC player, it is available in Linux / Ubuntu too.

2. Synaptic Package Manager

You need to download and install it in latest Ubuntu (11.10). Helps you when Ubuntu Software Center fails you.

3. GIMP

The image editor is unavoidable these days. Some say GIMP can do all that Photoshop does, I don't know about that but GIMP is surely a good tool to have if you are using Linux. You can also get GIMP for Windows if you wish not to use pirated Photoshop or prefer a free, open source tool.

4. Pitivi Video Editor

A useful tool in a PC. It is good enough to meet regular needs of an average user.

5. WINE

Wine helps you run Windows programs (not all) in Ubuntu / Linux. It normally support most common Windows programs without much difficulty.

You can download them all through Ubuntu Software Center.

Hope you like it. Share with friends using Facebook " Like ", Twitter and + 1 buttons below. :)

PDF tools for Ubuntu / Linux

How to create PDF in Ubuntu ?

Use Libre Office or Open Office. Both allows you to save in PDF format.

How to edit, merge, split a PDF file ?

Both PDF Shuffler and PDF editor does it easily. Shuffler can work only at page level like adding, deleting pages, merging two or more PDF documents into one etc but PDF editor can edit text and contents.

You can find more options on Ubuntu Software Center.

Open shot video editor allows you to add watermarks while editing videos. VLMC (derived from VLC player source code) is also a good altenative.
