VR-Zone tested out the latest 7970 with ASUS Rampage IV Extreme, and Sandy Bridge-E CPU. The motherboard can toggle between various Gen slots to use. Results were quite surprising as there was no significant performance increase when used Gen 2 or Gen 3 slot.

Almost Zero performance boost. THAT'S AWESOME... :hehe:

i guess they didn't put up gen 1 comparison chart...but what would be use of pci-e 3.0 slots if the results are so insignificant???Sandy bridge-e unofficially supports gen 3 so incompatibility is out of question...

Rajan stick with1.1 as PCI-E 2.0 as almost minimum gains in single card setup. Most present generation are not able to take the best of the memory bandwith. The gains will be huge only be felt if you use a SLI or CF setup

true as vaibhav said unless u want to crossfire or sli, the only difference is that u are going to pay a premium for just 5 to 10 fps improvement to a max.

the gains will be non existent if the slots work at x16, each. Even at 8x, I do't think the differences would be noticeable.. there would be other bottlenecks which would play a bigger part IMO..
