Beijing based telecom major, ZTE, has launched a 3G enabled Android 2.1 based tablet PC. Christened ZTE Light, the tablet supports voice calling on dual band UMTS 2100 MHZ/900 MHZ and Internet access on HSUPA network with a download speed of up to 7.2 Mbps and an upload speed of up to5.76 Mbps. If that sounded Greek to you, all you need to know is that this tablet is 3G ready.

The tablet sports a 7-inch LCD display packing a resolution of 800 x 400 pixels. It weighs in at a nifty 403 grams. On the storage and memory front, the Light is packed with 512MB RAM and 512MB ROM. A large screen and an embedded G-sensor widens the scope for multimedia and gaming, in addition to GPS navigation ability bundled into package. Although the tablet will ship with a preinstalled copy of the Android 2.1 OS, no details on upgradeability to Android 2.2 are forthcoming.

The Android platform opens up vistas to an endless array of business and productivity applications and a growing cache of third party software. Other features include Wi-Fi, a 3 megapixel camera, music and video player with MP4 support, bluetooth, external SD Slot with up to 32GB external memory, a 3.5mm stereo headset and a claimed battery life of 10 hours. No details on the price and local availability yet. However, a company spokesperson told Techtree that this tablet would eventually be launched in India.

Na, 24,000 is too much for an ZTE tablet. Sell at the same price as netbooks. 16 - 18,000.

Considering that the same from apple would cost at least 40k (lowest version with 3G),25k seems like a bargain?

Let us see how ZTE thinks about it. I thought since ZTE is not a  premium brand, they may sell it cheap.
